The Onion Hoody – a gem when it comes to wind shells

We have tested a lot of wind jackets, but the Onion Hoody is the one we keep reaching for. Lightweight, quick-drying, easy to fold, and super functional without any unnecessary fluff. It’s made in the Hokuriku region of Japan, developed by trail runners for trail runners, with a clear focus on comfort, movement, and detail.

The nylon used is a custom 20d double ripstop fabric: durable, breathable, and soft on the skin. It’s water-repellent (C-zero, so no harmful chemicals), and because it doesn’t use polyurethane, it stays light and airy while still offering a bit of stretch.

A big reason we love this jacket is the way it fits. The hood is comfortable and stays put in strong wind, and the elastic hem hugs your body just right, keeping wind out without being restrictive. The Onion Hoody is also designed to pair perfectly with the Fast Trail Gloves together, as they completely seal off wind on your upper body. It's something we’ve tested a lot during cold morning runs and it really works.

Some of our favorite features:

• Watch windows on both sleeves. Check your pace or heart rate without pulling your sleeve back.
• Asymmetrical zipper that avoids your chin and adds a bit of style.
• Double zipper for airflow from the bottom when you heat up.
• Ventilation zones under the arms and along the back to dump heat quickly.
• Packs into its own hood and becomes as small as, you guessed it, an onion.
• The design is clean, minimalistic, and reflective logo placement is subtle. Nothing too shouty, just a solid piece of gear you’ll want to bring on every run, hike or fast adventure.
